Kind Consultancy is working with a leading pensions firm which is currently seeking an Operational Risk Manager for a 12 month Maternity Cover fixed term contract, to be based in their offices in the Sheffield area.
The Operational Risk Manager contract is a hands‑on role, driving forward all aspects of operational risk management, with key responsibilities including:
- Supporting the implementation, embedding and maintenance of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework, including risk identification, measurement, monitoring and reporting.
- Working with the business to develop and embed risk appetites and tolerances.
- Providing guidance and support on first‑line RCSAs.
- Reviewing and updating Operational Risk policies and procedures.
- Producing clear, concise and accurate risk reporting within required timeframes.
- Monitoring the control environment and recommending improvements based on RCSA outputs, risk events and appetite thresholds.
- Acting as a point of reference for Operational Risk queries and provide expert advice.
- Providing risk opinion and guidance on projects and business change.
- Supporting the development of a proactive and open risk culture across the organisation.
- Working with the risk software provider to enhance system functionality and provide training to the business.
- Maintaining and developing the risk incident process, including reviewing incidents, monitoring action plans and producing trend analysis.
- Supporting the implementation and embedding of the Supplier Management Framework, including oversight of due diligence requirements.
Our ideal candidate for the Operational Risk Manager fixed term contract:
- Has demonstrable experience working in a second‑line operational risk function within a regulated Financial Services environment.
- Is able to interpret regulations, policies and procedures and apply them to business activity.
- Has experience of working with risk management software.
- Has strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Is proactive, inquisitive and able to challenge constructively.
- Is a confident user of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Having a good understanding of UK defined benefit pension scheme risk management would be highly advantageous
