Risk & Governance Director

Kind Consultancy is working with a Real Estate Financial Services firm which is currently seeking a Risk & Governance Director to join them in a permanent, full-time role paying a six figure salary with a strong benefits package. This position will initially be hybrid with in-office work taking place in the East Midlands, with a view to becoming predominantly remote over time.

Reporting to the Managing Director and managing up to 5 direct reports, the Risk & Governance Director will manage all aspects of risk to the organisation, with key responsibilities including:

  • Designing, implementing and lead the Risk Management Strategy for the business.
  • Advising the Senior Management Team on risks associated with businesses decisions promoting a cultural awareness of risks within the company.
  • Ensuring Senior Management are informed of regulatory, legislative and best practice changes and their obligations under these changes and how they impact the business
  • Maintaining & regularly updating the firm’s business risk register to include the determination of the organisation’s ‘risk appetite’ and taking mitigating actions where risks are deemed out of tolerance
  • Acting as the Anti-Money Laundering & Reporting Officer (MLRO) including ensuring all financial crime prevention activity remains compliant.
  • Preparing & delivering periodic risk updates to the Board of the firm’s parent company
  • Managing and ensuring the adequacy of the Valuation Controls Framework including reviews of Valuation Policy, monitoring and
    second line checking activity (e.g. surveyor audit programme) for adherence to the Policy and risk assessment of potential new clients.
  • Overall responsibility for overseeing and monitoring the Information Security, Business Continuity, Health & Safety Policies including maintaining or obtaining relevant external accreditations (e.g. ISO27001)
  • Supporting client service (internal and external) in all Risk and Compliance processes.
  • Developing, leading and motivating the Risk and Governance team to maximise their effectiveness & efficiency; including management of technical SMEs in data protection, information security, business continuity & health, safety & environment.
  • Overseeing all audit activity within the surveying division; internal group audits, client initiated assurance activity and other external auditors (e.g. RICS, BSi), liaising with Group internal audit.

Our ideal candidate for the Risk & Governance Director position:

  • Has a minimum of 5 years of experience in Risk Management roles.
  • Has experience in Operational or Credit Risk activity within Financial Services or another regulated industry
  • Holds an ICA Diploma or equivalent in International Compliance and/or Anti Money Laundering/or PC.dp (GDPR)
  • Demonstrates a broad technical knowledge and expertise covering conduct of business matters, corporate governance, regulatory / operational risk and change
  • Takes a commercial and practical approach to risk-based challenges and offering appropriate solutions
  • Has a successful track record of influencing behaviours at all levels within the organisation and presenting to Boards and Senior Management Teams
  • Has a proven history of delivering enhancements to process efficiency
  • Has experience of leading and motivating a multi specialism team (including remotely) with the ability to inspire confidence
  • Has sound business drive and commercial judgement with consistently excellent attention to detail
  • Must be a decision maker capable of working on their own initiative
  • Has well developed Relationship Management skills
