Credit Underwriter – Asset Finance Flow

Kind Consultancy is working with a multidisciplinary UK bank which is currently seeking an Asset Finance Flow Credit Underwriter to join them in a full-time, permanent role, paying up to £50,000 and with a hybrid work model which will be 50% in-office in the East Midlands.

The Asset Finance Flow Credit Underwriter will report to the Head of Credit for Asset Finance Flow with key responsibilities including:

  • Assessing the credit and risk profiles of customers within the asset finance flow lending market, determining the acceptability of proposals, and providing recommendations or alternative solutions where appropriate, that satisfy customer needs and business objectives.
  • Conducting independent assessments of each case and preparing the relevant documents for an informed decision to be made by the appropriate member.
  • Recommending delinquent accounts that due to an identified adverse track record qualify for inclusion on the bank’s Watch List.
  • Ensuring the main influencing factors and sanctioning analysis is accurately recorded when reaching proposal recommendations/decisions.
  • Facilitating business development efforts through a proactive approach to credit proposals to ensure maximisation of opportunities.
  • Ensuring compliance with the bank’s policies, procedures, and asset finance flow lending guidelines together with all appropriate regulatory and statutory requirements, implementing actions to protect the Bank’s business at all times.
  • Communicating relevant information to team members, senior management and other interested parties ensuring essential features of the situation are understood, enabling informed decisions to be taken where appropriate.
  • Proactively reviewing the credit processes and recommend changes that will deliver operational efficiencies and foster a culture of continuous credit risk improvement.

Our ideal candidate for the Asset Finance Flow Credit Underwriter opportunity:

  • Has previous experience in underwriting and working knowledge of lending principles and credit analysis for small ticket transactions.
  • Has a proven appreciation and working knowledge of lending principles, credit analysis and underwriting methodologies for small ticket transactions.
  • Has knowledge of the asset finance commercial environment and sector specialism including asset finance flow lending and the SME market
  • Has excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Has a good understanding of the relevant rules under the financial services acts and of financial management and the wider management principles and techniques
  • Is able to interpret and implement relevant guidance, ensuring compliance and that customers are treated fairly.
  • Has excellent oral and written communication skills and organisational skills.
  • Possesses a good understanding of Conduct Risk and Treating Customers Fairly requirements relevant to credit operations.

Head of Underwriting – Buy-to-Let Mortgages

Kind Consultancy is working with a successful, growing challenger bank which is currently seeking a Head of Underwriting for Buy-to-Let Mortgages to join them in a permanent, full-time position with a hybrid work model requiring 3 in-office days in Birmingham per week, with a highly competitive salary and benefits package.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Head of Buy-to-Let Mortgage Underwriting will oversee the assessment and approval of buy-to-let mortgage applications, with key responsibilities including:

  • Guiding a team in assessing loan applications and underwriting loans to support Buy to Let customers
  • Checking documentation for completeness and adherence to credit policy
  • Ensure applications are fully compliant with legislation, lending policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Acting as the escalation point to provide acceptances and rejections or to ask for further information and being accountable for this should questions be asked
  • Providing a point of contact for queries in relation to underwriting decisions from brokers and customers.
  • Providing feedback to Risk, Relationship Management and brokers on the quality and completeness of applications.
  • Championing customers needs using interaction with brokers and customers where required (verbally, and in writing)
  • Developing and maintaining underwriting procedures and documentation

Our ideal candidate for the Head of Underwriting – Buy to Let Mortgages opportunity:

  • Has 2+ years of heading up a team of underwriting specialists handling buy to let lending applications including complex cases, differing ownership/deal structures and asset types (standard BTL, HMO, MUFB, Holiday Lets, Semi Commercial property).
  • Has strong specialist Buy to Let lending knowledge and strong understanding of regulatory requirements including BCOBS, MCOB, CONC
  • Is experienced in residential mortgage underwriting processes and controls
  • Can communicate with legal partners and help define and streamline processes
  • Is a confident user of Excel with a good understanding of intermediate calculations

Senior Underwriter – 12 Month FTC

Kind Consultancy is working with a successful and respected Retail Financial Services business which is currently growing its Underwriting team. As part of this expansion, they are seeking a Senior Underwriter to join their East Midlands offices in a 12-month Fixed Term Contract paying up to £45,000, with the possibility of remote or hybrid work models.

As a Senior Underwriter your role will be to ensure the business’s underwriting standards and practices are upheld within the Lending Team, ensuring the 6 Pillars approach is embedded consistently in addition to the Responsible Lending Policy. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the training of Lending Support Officers on the Underwriting T&C Framework.
  • Dealing with enquiries on all aspects of mortgage applications from customer and intermediaries.
  • Monitoring suitability of applications and compliance with current Lending Policy.
  • Conducting Affordability Assessments to ensure they comply with current Lending Policy or make any recommendations outside of this.
  • Approving of advances up to level of mandate.
  • Preparing applications outside mandate for higher mandated approval, including MIG referrals and Authorisation numbers.
  • Identifying opportunities to make the mortgage process more efficient without compromising standards

For the Fixed Term Contract Senior Underwriter opportunity, we’re looking for candidates who:

  • Hold a full CeMAP Qualification
  • Have substantial Underwriting experience
  • Are confident in manually underwriting deals
  • Have previously held a mandate of at least £500,000
  • Have excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills and the ability to solve problems quickly.
  • Are highly organised with strong prioritisation skills
  • Have good IT skills including a basic understanding of the MS Office package, especially MS Outlook & Excel.
  • Hold at least five GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above, including Maths and English.
  • Are willing to undergo a credit reference search and DBS check
