Kind Consultancy is working with a growing Financial Services firm which is currently seeking a Mortgage Underwriter to join them in a full-time, permanent role in their Watford office focussing on 1st Charge Residential Mortgages.

The Mortgage Underwriter will take ownership of allocated mortgage cases from inception through to completion with key responsibilities including:

  • Entering and updating borrower data on a lending platform.
  • Ensuring all aspects of the loans are recorded accurately on Fusion and meet underwriting guidelines.
  • Carrying out an assessment of the mortgage application to ensure all aspects of our underwriting criteria are met.
  • Providing concise and accurate updates to brokers.
  • Proactively chasing brokers for outstanding requirements.
  • Ensuring all underwriting is in line with Company policy and within regulation and all cases are Underwritten within the Groups Risk appetite.
  • Building good relationships with 3rd party suppliers including brokers and solicitors to assist in the smooth flow of business.
  • Maintaining a pipeline of cases, overseeing cases from inception through to completion.

Our ideal candidate for the Mortgage Underwriter opportunity:

  • Is experienced in underwriting 1st and/or 2nd Charge Mortgage applications
  • Has a good understanding of FCA regulations
  • Has consistently excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills – both written and spoken
  • Holding CeMAP would be desirable but is not essential

Underwriter – 2nd Charge Mortgages

Kind Consultancy is working with an alternative Financial Services business which is now seeking an Underwriter to join them in a full-time, permanent role focussing on 2nd Charge Mortgages, to based in their Hertfordshire office, paying £35,000 to £42,500 dependent on experience.

Reporting to the 2nd Charge Mortgage Team Leader, the 2nd Charge Mortgage Underwriter will:

  • Take ownership of allocated 2nd Charge Mortgage cases from inception to completion
  • Enter and update borrower data on the lending platform, ensuring all aspects of the case are recorded accurately and meet underwriting guidelines
  • Provide concise, accurate updates to brokers
  • Pursue outstanding requirements from brokers
  • Ensure that all underwriting is in line with company policy and regulations and that all cases are underwritten within the risk appetite
  • Build good relationships with third party suppliers including brokers and solicitors
  • Maintain a pipeline of cases

Our ideal candidate for the 2nd Charge Underwriter position:

  • Has past experience of underwriting 1st and 2nd Charge mortgage applications
  • Is CeMAP qualified (not essential)
  • Has a good understanding of FCA regulations
  • Is an excellent communicator in both writing and speech

Senior Underwriter

Kind Consultancy is working with an established specialist Asset Finance lender which is currently seeking a Senior Underwriter to join them in a permanent, full-time position paying up to £60,000 with a hybrid work model requiring 2 days per week in-office in the Lancashire area.

Reporting to the Head of Credit for Asset Finance, the Senior Underwriter will focus on drafting and presenting structured credit proposals, with key responsibilities including:

  • Performing credit reviews and researching industry and customer-related information for all new proposals and reviews of existing customers, as well as proactively monitoring industry and sector trends for early warning signals.
  • Achieving a timely turnaround of credit proposals and reviews, in accordance with pre-agreed SLAs.
  • Liaising with fellow Senior Underwriters and colleagues from the Credit & Risk department, as well as the Sales and Operations teams in relation to credit proposals; satisfaction of conditions precedent prior to referring for payout; and assisting in ongoing monitoring of clients’ financial performance to ensure compliance with covenants in place.
  • Building and developing relationships with existing and potential Introducers, Suppliers and Valuers in order to maximise future opportunities for the Business.
  • Assisting in the production of underwriting management reports, including client exposures, asset concentration; and other ad hoc reports as required.

For the Senior Underwriter opportunity we’re looking for candidates who:

  • Are able to write structured credit proposals in line with agreed timescales.
  • Have previous credit risk experience at a financial services provider (not necessarily in an asset finance environment)
  • Have good knowledge of finance prooducts
  • Possess effective time-management abilities and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Are strong communicators and relationship builders
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and accountability

Senior Underwriter – 12 Month FTC

Kind Consultancy is working with a successful and respected Retail Financial Services business which is currently growing its Underwriting team. As part of this expansion, they are seeking a Senior Underwriter to join their East Midlands offices in a 12-month Fixed Term Contract paying up to £45,000, with the possibility of remote or hybrid work models.

As a Senior Underwriter your role will be to ensure the business’s underwriting standards and practices are upheld within the Lending Team, ensuring the 6 Pillars approach is embedded consistently in addition to the Responsible Lending Policy. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the training of Lending Support Officers on the Underwriting T&C Framework.
  • Dealing with enquiries on all aspects of mortgage applications from customer and intermediaries.
  • Monitoring suitability of applications and compliance with current Lending Policy.
  • Conducting Affordability Assessments to ensure they comply with current Lending Policy or make any recommendations outside of this.
  • Approving of advances up to level of mandate.
  • Preparing applications outside mandate for higher mandated approval, including MIG referrals and Authorisation numbers.
  • Identifying opportunities to make the mortgage process more efficient without compromising standards

For the Fixed Term Contract Senior Underwriter opportunity, we’re looking for candidates who:

  • Hold a full CeMAP Qualification
  • Have substantial Underwriting experience
  • Are confident in manually underwriting deals
  • Have previously held a mandate of at least £500,000
  • Have excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills and the ability to solve problems quickly.
  • Are highly organised with strong prioritisation skills
  • Have good IT skills including a basic understanding of the MS Office package, especially MS Outlook & Excel.
  • Hold at least five GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above, including Maths and English.
  • Are willing to undergo a credit reference search and DBS check
